The Team
  • ICWB Sponsor Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee
    • Dr. Chatterjee is the Chairman of The Chatterjee Group (TCG), which comprises several businesses. TCG is the lead promoter of Haldia Petrochemicals, a world-class petrochemical complex in India.

      I Create, West Bengal (ICWB) is the center for Eastern India regional operations of I Create, Inc. which has been working with the disadvantaged communities in India, both rural and urban, for the past seven years. For ICWB program please click here. ICWB follows the general IC program with some modifications to suit the needs and requirements of the local communities.
  • ICWB Director, Ms. Sreoshi Moitra
    • Ms.Sreoshi Moitra is an MA in Economics from Oxford University, U.K. She is also a Gold-medallist from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She was appointed Director of I Create West Bengal Regional Center in 2001. Before that, Sreoshi had 18 years of work experience at the senior level in various private sector organizations both in India and abroad. She has built a successful program of entrepreneurship in West Bengal in the area of Howrah District adopted by ICWB. She has conducted various types of entrepreneurship development workshops in collaboration with SIDBI, NABARD, and Departments under the State Govt. She enjoys the support of Dr. Chatterjee, Mr. Lahiri, President, TCG, Mr.Kishore Bhattacharya as well as administrative staff at TCG.
      A Special Thanks to Kishore Bhattacharya for his continuous guidance and support since the start of I Create work in India.

    • Biswarup Roy, Prosanta Kumar Basu, Sreoshi Moitra, Chandan Nandi, P.K. Chatterjee, Debashis Maitra (This is an earlier photo that includes the photo of Chitrarup Chakraborty) at the extreme right. Unfortunately, this dynamic and vital member of the Core team passed away in 2006. I Create has created a fund in Chitrarup’s Memory to provide seed money to the women in Bagnan Village where ICWB is providing entrepreneurship training.

Annual donations from philanthropists, Christopher Seymour and his wife Urmila Banerjee have enabled ICWB to conduct Aspiring Entrepreneurs Workshops for disadvantaged women, provide skills training through Bagnan Uluberia Jan Sikshan Sanstha, a vocational institute sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India at Ananda Niketan.       ICWB conducts skill based rural entrepreneurship trainings ranging from 5-6 weeks to 3 months duration sponsored by The National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development ( NABARD ). It has conducted several workshops in Burdwan district and in Taki., which is a town near the Bangladesh Border in North 24 Parganas. The objectives of these trainings are promotion of non-farm sector, up-gradation of skills and capacities amongst rural youth, motivating rural youth towards entrepreneurship using a particular skill, for example, two-wheeler repairing or utilizing a skill to obtain employment and generate income.
Aniruddha Lahiri

I Create thanks Aniruddha Lahiri for his generous donation. Mr. Lahiri is the President of the Chatterjee Group. Before that he was the Managing Director of ABP Pvt. Ltd., a leading Media Publication company. He is a Chemical Engineer from the prestigious IIT.

The Program
A. Rural Project
    • ICWB has "adopted" the Bagnan area, in Howrah district and works in partnership with the Jan Sikshan Sansthan (under Ananda Niketan). JSS a skills training institute that trains women and youth in various practical skills vehicle, mobile and TV repair, tailoring, knitting and many more. ICWB has provided entrepreneurship training on a regular basis to 125 young men and women from the surrounding villages trained by Jan Sikshan Sansthan (JSS) Fifteen women so trained have received seed money or equipment from the IC-Chitrarup Seed Money Fund, being ably administered by our partner organization JSS. Several more are being considered based on their project reports.

      ICWB works closely with the Balrampur Institute of Vocational Aid (BIVA) ICWB's entrepreneurship training will soon be introduced at BIVA. I Create's illustrious MT and Core Group Member Chandan Nandi is the
      Principal of this insitute.
    • IC-Chitrarup Fund: After a dedicated ICWB Master Trainer, Chitrarup Chakraborty, suddenly passed away, I Create Inc. started a seed money fund in his name. This fund gives seed money to selected youth and women trained in entrepreneurship by I Create and who have received skills training from Ananda Niketan.
    • B. Urban Project: Kolkata
    • In order to spread the culture of entrepreneurship, change the mindset of the students in low-income schools, college and ITI's, who are usually trained to only look for jobs after graduation which are often not there for them, and to give them another option of starting their own small businesses, IC holds regional business-plan competitions with cash awards.
  • ICWB Links Up With Major Universities
    • Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops were conducted for professors of two prestigious universities of West Bengal - Jadavpur University and Kolkata University. Many of these professors are now ICWB Master Trainers (MT's). A close link is maintained with these universities.

      Several colleges and schools have introduced Entrepreneurship program. They include, Goenka College of Commerce & Business Administration, St. Xavier's College, Bhawanipur Education Society College, Rama Krishna Mission Residential College, Jogesh Chandra Chowdhury College, Gokhale College, and Rama Krishna Mission Vidyalaya etc. Amongst vocational institutes. the Loka Siksha Parishad, RKM, Narendrapur and Balrampur Institute of Vocational Aid (BIVA) follow the I Create curriculum closely.
  • Prestigious Awards and Recognition
    • A student of Goenka College. Tinny Roy, won first prize at the National I Create-NFTE Business Plan competition held in Jaipur. Tinny won a substantial cash Award and an all expense paid trip to New York to participate in the Annual NFTE Event in April 2007. She represented India at the international event and was a great ambassador of India and IC entrepreneurship program. Mr. Prosanta Basu, ICWB Master Trainer, received the "I Create Regional Award for the Best Entrepreneurship Trainer" in 2003. In recognition of his success in creating entrepreneurs, Mr. Chandan Nandi received an "Honorable Mention" and recognition Certificate from NFTE in 2003.
